Growers
It is not only for the customer that Green Heron wants to be a unique partner. Green Heron also wants to achieve the best results (prices paid) for our grower associates, and we have a healthy financial basis. Green Heron is convinced that good performances are only possible through a mix of the following factors:
- retaining a buyer’s stance, which means optimal prices paid
- offering flexibility and the right service
- keeping the chain short, and providing information about market trends, influences and transparency
- cost control, no commission
- a clear brand policy
Green Heron considers that the middleman’s role only works where the lines of communication are short and there is transparency about sales. Green Heron offers both, by working within a relatively small organisation: AC Reijgersberg BV in Poeldijk, Holland. This organisation is characterised by a flat structure. At AC Reijgersberg, each product group is bought and sold by the same member of staff. For the grower this means short lines and transparency concerning sales. There is a good exchange of information and the grower always has an insight into the sale of his own products. The grower is always informed of and involved in any mediation or price-setting, and major decisions are taken in consultation.
The informal character of AC Reijgersberg is another big advantage. The door is always open and every grower is in principle always very welcome.
Together with AC Reijgersberg, Green Heron has taken a close look at the logistic flows. The most important goals were to achieve short chains and cost control. The present flat organisation of AC Reijgersberg does not involve high logistical and administrative costs, which can be seen in their good results and thus the good prices they pay. For example, the products are shipped from the grower’s site without any additional costs (commissions) for the grower associates.
Green Heron’s packaging materials are supplied nationwide by one supplier. Boxes are assembled in various places in the country and can be supplied to the grower on demand. Our network means that there is no need for growers to hold large stocks of packaging or materials.
Growers of Green Heron could join an European recognized growers’ association, so it is possible to apply for COM (Common Organisation of the Market) subsidies.
Green Heron offers growers a cooperative relationship on a voluntary basis. This does not require any multiyear contract, with all the consequences that might entail. Reijgersberg actually wants to be identified with growers who value flexibility, freedom, short chains and having more influence, without being tied to the obligations of growers’ associations or similar organisations.
